Block Youtube Video Ad´s

Here is how to block Ads on almost any website and those annoying video ads in YouTube.

First download, install Mozilla Firefox and use that instead of Internet Explorer or whatever else your using.

Now Firefox alone wont block the ad´s. You need to install 2 Add-on´s:
 1) AdBlock Plus
 2) NoScript

NoScript isn't mandatory to block the Ad´s but i find it very useful for stopping pop-ups and videos from automatically playing. With NoScript you´ll be surprised how many sites your browser connects while browsing your favourite sites.

Also by doing the previous you will reduce your monthly bandwidth usage by not having to load Ads.

Dell RAC Internet Redirect

Problems accessing drac over WAN? If your are having problems logging into drac from the internet try the following. Ive also heard this helps console viewer to work over the internet.

This fixed the problem of the browser being redirected to a local IP from DRAC interface over WAN.

Use TCP Redirector(on the remote pc you are on) to redirect port 5900 to your WAN IP(the public IP of the DRAC interface).

You should be able to access your DRAC interface over WAN/Internet and login.

ZoneMinder Export Failed Fix

If your getting export failed or a 45KB file from ZoneMinder export in Ubuntu, then most likely you are using a version below 1.25.0 of Zoneminder. Here is how to fix it.

1) Open  terminal on the server running zoneminder.

2) Enter the following:
gksudo gedit /usr/share/zoneminder/skins/classic/includes/export_functions.php

3) Scroll to line 255 and look for the following line(error is in red):

$exportFileList = array_merge( $exportFileList, exportFileList( $eid ), $exportDetail, $exportFrames, $exportImages, $exportVideo, $exportMisc );

and edit it to this(remove bracket at the end of $eid and place it after $exportMisc):

$exportFileList = array_merge( $exportFileList, exportFileList( $eid , $exportDetail, $exportFrames, $exportImages, $exportVideo, $exportMisc ));

Save and close the file. Now try the export function and it should work without a hitch.

Speed up SnakeOS NAS

Disable the services your not using. You would be suprised how much of a difference this makes. For example I was only using FTP so I disabled all other services and made sure the services was stopped. Then saved config and rebooted, once rebooted make sure the services are still stopped and disabled.

This will speed up the SnakeOS NAS and speed up FTP SAMBA transfer speeds.

I disabled and stopped samba, transmission, ssh and a bunch others except ftp. The RAM usage went from 93% on idle to 23% on idle. And my transfer speed when from 1-2MB/s to 5-6MB/s.

So, disable and stop all services you dont use. Make sure to save the config or when you reboot you will loose these settings.

Internet Explorer Operation Failed

Getting error Internet Explorer Operation Failed.

The best way is to Upgrade to IE 7 or 8 and do a system update.

The cause may also or instead be caused by a virus, so you may have to update your Anti Virus and run a scan. If you don't have a anti virus program download and update AVG Free and Malwarebytes Free version. (Virus and Malware are different so you will need both).

Once its updated run a FULL scan and remove any threats.

Ionizer Uses

A portable Ionizer is an amazing device to have. I have used it to remove odors from carpet, clothes, home, cars, anything that holds odors.

Just turn on the portable ionizer in the room you want and leave it on for a couple hours, it will destroy bacteria(depending on how long you leave it on) and leave the area smelling clean. I haven't spent a single dollar on air fresheners or odor absorbers since I discovered that my ionizer does all this.

An Ionizer is the best odor destroyer in my opinion, it gets rid of any odors in the entire home amazingly.  If your car has an odor inside just put it in your car, run an extension and just have enough room in one window for the wire to hang out and leave it on for a couple hours, the ionizer gets rid of odors from all fabrics I have tried.


Note: This is not based on scientific data just my personal experience. I would not leave it on all the time though as it did cause some throat irritation after leaving it on for a month consistently. So I only use it when I need to refreshen a room or floor.

SAMSUNG LN-T3242H Firmware Update

I was looking for another firmware update recently to fix lag time when switching between inputs when I noticed a lot of people talking about a problem that their Samsung TV´s were experiencing, but Samsung took down the firmware update that corrected it.

Well, I used it on my TV a while back when it was still up and have a copy of it. So enjoy.

Note: I don't know why SAMSUNG took down the LN-T3242H Firmware Update but I have posted it here for you. Please do this AT YOUR OWN RISK!, worked fine for me. I take no responsibility for what may occur as a result of using this file.(This is just my disclaimer, I'm trying to help people by posting this. But I need to put this in-case some people wanna complain about it.)

Download: LNT3242H Firmware

1) Download and extract zip archive above

2) Insert an empty USB drive and format it.(Take your data off before formatting, this will erase all existing data on the USB Flash Drive)

3) Run the file extracted earlier called: LNT3242H 2008 Firmware 20080526115828718_T-JASMINE.exe

4) It will then ask you where to extract, click browse and choose the newly formated USB Drive. Safely Remove the USB drive once complete.

5) Now follow Page #60 in the LN-T3242H User Manual

Disable A/C IR Sensor

Disable IR Sensor.

Well I was in a hotel and when I got to my room I did the first thing I do when I get in my hotel room. I turned the A/C on the coldest setting. I like it cold. However I was annoyed by the fact when I got back to my room after a evening out that my A/C was on but the room was warmer than before I left. Well I noticed that the A/C was OFF until I entered my room and a motion sensor on my thermostat turned the A/C back on.

After some web browsing I found a way to disable the motion sensor, and that is by setting the A/C in VIP mode, this needs to be done every 12 or 24 hours depending on the unit, because VIP mode only lasts that long.

To enable VIP mode Hold "Display" button and Press "Off" and then Press "UP" arrow, now release display button and the LCD should show VIP(that means it worked).

Antivirus Live CD USB

AVG has a live antivirus CD, which has come in handy a few times. I'm going to teach you how to make a Live AVG bootable USB, if you want a live anti virus cd you can download the ISO and burn it and you're done, reboot your system and it will work fine. Or download the USB version, extract the files, run the setup.exe select the drive letter your USB drive is on and wait.

Once its finished. Plug it into the infected PC and boot up, press F12 for bootmenu and choose the USB drive.

Free Garmin Maps

I was looking for Free Garmin GPS Maps and came across the OpenStreetMap Project maps. Now all you have to do is download the gmapsupp.img file and put it on a SD card in a folder called Garmin and load the SD card into the Garmin Device. To enable the map go into Tools->Settings->Map->Map Info and deselect the maps you don't need and select the new map, or you can enable all.

These Free OpenSource Garmin Maps in gmapsupp.img format  are available for Central America, Mexico, Canada, Carribean

Or you may go to the Main site and generate your own IMG file for any part of the world.

The third alternative(and favourite) is to use http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ Here you can select any area´s and multiple area´s in the world you want and generate a gmapsupp.img, Input your email address and the server will send you a link to download the file once its completed.

For example say you frequent Paris, New York, Vancouver, St Maarten and Africa; you can select all these areas and generate a .img file that you can load on your SD card and put into your garmin GPS so you have street maps of all these places on one card.

Receive Email with URL that shows Queue Length:

Receive Email With Download Link to .img file:

Download, extract, place on SD card in Garmin folder, and place into Garmin GPS.

On a side not Garmin rocks, it is the best consumer gps out there! I have tried other gps´s such as tomtom and sony, they cannot be compared. Do your research if your looking into buying a gps, your best bet is to go with Garmin. I wouldn't buy any other brand even if there was a sale for 10$ for a brand new sealed in the box other brand GPS in any store.

Stream IP Camera to N770

Well I tried many ways to get to stream IP Camera to Nokia N770 Maemo, here´s how I finally did it.

1) Make sure Xterm is installed.

2) Install Wget , single click install file from N770.

3) Install MPlayer

4) Install Becomeroot

5) Launch Xterm, type sudo gainroot

6) Then type:

mkfifo stream.mjpeg
wget http://username:password@IPAddress:port/videostream.cgi -O fifo.mjpeg & mplayer -demuxer 35 fifo.mjpeg

add -aspect 16:9  to fill out the full screen(no black bars) so it would look like this:

wget http://username:password@IPAddress:port/videostream.cgi -O fifo.mjpeg & mplayer -aspect 16:9 -demuxer 35 fifo.mjpeg 

You should now be streaming full screen to your N770, the http link in step 6 is to stream Foscam or Foscam Clone to N770. Lookup the link for your IP camera and replace http:*.cgi with your link.

Third-Party OS for MP3 Player

Recently I was browsing the web for an update to my old MP3 player, it has a color screen but it only plays MP3´s. I came across a Open Source Linux Firmware for my Toshiba MP3. After flashing my MP3 with this firmware I was able watch movies on my MP3!!!! Not possible with the original firmware, and play Games(also not possible before). Even my battery life has increased(due to power management features).

There are great looking themes, games and plugins for this OS. Its compatible with quite a few MP3 players such as iPod, iRiver, SanDisk, and more. If you want to drop by the site and check it out maybe breath some new life into a old gadget. Oh I forgot the best part, No more syncing songs with manufacturer software, all you need to do is copy paste the songs to the MP3. Some device´s can dual boot original firmware and rockbox firmware.

(Flash at your own risk, Ive done it without problems twice and its quite easy. You can always revert back to original firmware if you don't like it. I for one am keeping this Firmware.)

Online Virus Scanner

If you want a online virus scanner try TrendMicro HouseCall . However Im talking about if you want to scan a file against multiple Antivirus programs. For this purpose you should try VirusTotal or Jotti's Malware Scan . Now the maximum filesize allowed is 20MB, you upload the file and these websites will scan it with multiple programs and report its findings. VirusTotal for example will save the files hash so the next time someone uploads it or someone uploaded it before you, the last result will be displayed or you can choose to rescan.

Western Digital HDD Premature Failure

Recently while browsing some forums I found some information that Western Digital Green Drives have a feature that parks the heads after 8 seconds of inactivity. Depending your use on your drive you can see the amount of time this is done each day can be significant. This can cause your HDD to die much sooner than anticipated.

The method used to alleviate this is to use WDIDLE3 provided from western digital to increase this idle time to something more realistic or disable it completely. I have disabled mine on a 1TB WD Green HDD successfully without any problems or loss of data(I was scared I would lose my data but it was fine). I am not responsible if you mess up your drive, just thought Id share what I learned. Google the wdidle3.exe and you will see people´s recommendations on what to do.

2 things you'll need to know you need to run this utility in DOS bootable disk and the drive must be connected via SATA or PATA. It will not work while connected via USB. There are some bootable CD ISO´s with this software on it already, google is your friend.

Frigidaire Is Not Good

Well like I said when I made this blog, I will also be talking about general things besides tech ocasionally. I want to let you know to be weary about Frigidaire we all thought they were great products and they were but since Electrolux bought them over the quality is horribly.

I personal and some people have experienced problems with dishwashers, fridges, stoves and microwaves, All kinds of problems such as display panel led's breaking for no reason(you never need to touch this part so i dont understand how this happens.) Dishwasher spray arms fall off and when put back it just falls off again. Well im not gonna tell you all the problems I and other people have encountered you can google that, But just consider yourself warned, I wont be buying any frigidaire products again(matter of fact anything under the Electrolux brand).

Browser Redirect Virus

So I had this virus that was redirecting my browsers, AVG, Spybot and MalwareBytes did not detect anything. After running Hijackthis, I noticed some scheduled tasks. When I checked my Task scheduler I notice 23 Scheduled tasks, that ran mshta.exe and some URL. I deleted all of these scheduled tasks,searched my C drive for mshta.exe and deleted all instances of it(may need to use Unlocker to do this).

Once I rebooted I ran AVG, Spybot and MalwareBytes again, AVG found 4 things and could not remove them:

After some google'ing I found someone recommending TDSSKiller from Kaspersky. So I ran this program and it found 2 threats and removed them with a reboot, healed my system completely, AVG scan confirmed this.

Stream IP Camera VLC

Here's how to stream the live video from your Foscam or Foscam Clone Wireless IP Security Camera.






Create a text file and enter the following line replacing the username/pass/ip/port with yours.

http://username:password@IPAddress:port#/videostream.cgi

Save the text file as Security.asf (asf is the extension of the file so your media player will recognize it and open it) now double-click the security.asf file or drag and drop it into VLC and it should start streaming intermediately.

The above process worked fine with the administrator account. But for streaming only, its a good idea to create a Visitor account with restricted access, but the line above doesn't seem to work with Operator or Visitor accounts, so instead use the line below in the security.asf file instead of the one above.

You can even use this file from a hotel or anywhere, any place in the world if you forward the port your camera is on on your router. So you can stream your camera from anywhere without having to log into the web interface, that is why I recommend creating a Visitor account for this purpose.
